Presentation transcript:

Click ‘browse’ to search your device for your chosen file Choose this option so the information used is put in a new table in the database currently being used This is the first page and involves selecting the data source you wish to use and how it will be imported to the database.

Select ‘delimited’ so fields are separated by commas in data Data can either be delimited with certain characters separating the different fields or fields can have a fixed width spaces separating the fields into individual columns. For this database, the fields are delimited.

Click ‘comma’ only so fields are separated by commas in the selected data and by no other type of punctuation As the data is delimited then the database must know what punctuation type will be the delimiter(s) – in the case of this database, a comma will be used to separate the different fields.

Tick all the skip boxes other than the fields you want to include Click ‘ok’ to return to the screen behind and save changes to the specification The import specification allows you to alter the data being imported in a variety of ways – it once again gives the choice to make the data delimited or fixed width and you can decide which fields are used in the data. Select ‘Advanced’ to bring up the circled screen (import specification)

Specify the names of all the fields you are importing Specify the names of all the fields you are importing. Here the data type can be changed – ‘short text’ is currently selected. Enter each field name

Using this drop down menu, choose what data you want to use Select this to choose your own primary key The primary key in a table identifies the records in the given table. Opting to choose your own primary key means retrieving data will be a faster and simpler process.

This is the final page where you finalize your choices for the data importing. You input the name of the table you are importing the data to and if you want the table to be analysed after the data is imported. Type in the name of the datasheet the data will be imported in to Click ‘finish’ to input the data into the selected table
