Visual thinking to generate really cool ideas SCAMPER Visual thinking to generate really cool ideas

What is SCAMPER ? A person trying to be mischievous in a likeable or amusing way. A reptile in a tent ? An acronym used by designers (and design students) to help explore the creative potential of an idea. A person fleeing the scene ?

How do you move forward from : “so sir……. I was thinking of making a set of sick speakers for my car” “my mum says we need a new coffee table” “I don’t know what to make sir…….. Everything to do with fishing is already out there” “cant I just make a bed or something”

SCAMPER PROCESSES can help you…. Really. S. Substitute C SCAMPER PROCESSES can help you…. Really. S Substitute C Combine features A Adapt M Modify P Put to another use E Eliminate R Rearrange components

Don’t forget your toothbrush !!! Nothing to change ? Right ?

Substitute Put to another use

Combine features Modify

Your task For the secret object, use the SCAMPER technique to come up with some new idea’s or concepts that could be used to develop a new product. We will just concentrate just on : S Substitute – change one feature/ component for another C Combine features – what other functions could it preform P Put to another use – Another user ? Another environment or place the product could be used When you have an idea, come out and explain to our legendary designers at the front and see your idea start to be realised.

Substitute Combine features Put to another use Where is it used ? By who? When? What are the current problems? What goes in it? How is it carried? What could be added to make it better? Substitute Combine features Put to another use
