Welcome to sixth grade! 08/03/2018 Beginning of Class Procedures: Come in quietly and find a seat. You will be assigned a seat later. Unload your backpack. You can NOT take it with you. You will leave it here and get it before 6th period. Go get your breakfast NOW. Do not wait. Breakfast is over at 9:15. First period will begin immediately after announcements. We will take you to your connections the first week of school. Read quietly or work on an assignment from another class. Seventh period = Homeroom (There isn’t a 7th period.) If you are not eating, you must read something of your choice. Help yourself to the books on the bookshelf. HOMEROOM = SILENCE

Language Arts – Warm Up 08/03/18 Logos A logo is a unique symbol or design that represents a company. Think of some common logos that you see often and are easily recognizable. What makes them good logos? Could you draw those logos just from memory? Task: Decorate the front of your folder with a logo that represents who you are as a person. You may not use a logo that already exists. (Examples: No Nike checks, no car symbols, etc.)

Language Arts – Work Session 08/03/17 Essential Question: How can I be successful in 6th grade? Standard: ELACC6W4 - Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience. “Today I will use RAFT writing because it will help me address a topic for a specific audience and purpose.”

Language Arts – Work Session 08/03/18 Tell Me About You! Use the handout, but put your answers on the notecard. Remember to use complete sentences for your answers. I know you have a great, expansive vocabulary! Show me how brilliant you are in your answers! If you finish early, you may return to working on your logo/folder.
