Considerations for Senior Students Pick the right pathway: Research destinations City –distance, size, transportation . . . Schools—size, characteristics, Programs available, specialties/expertise Get real: Set realistic goals Marks—average, prerequisites, EFFORT Money—lots! Talk to teachers, counsellors, and others who have done this before you!

Considerations . . . KEY--Manage your time Prioritize and organize Part time work Volunteer activities Sports/clubs Deadlines HOMEWORK/STUDY/ESSAYS Friends, family, work outs, relaxing 

University Program Planning In general, there are 4 main types of programs at most universities: Arts/Humanities/Social Sciences Life/Health Sciences Physical/Engineering Sciences Business/Commerce

Tools You’ll Need www.ouac.on.ca You will need: ~ your OUAC PIN (Ms. Brennan) ~ a personal email address (not your LKDSB address!) ~ a calendar— note deadlines *January 16, 2019 !!!!!! * www.MyBlueprint.ca

Important Dates and Deadlines Nov. 5, 2018 – University Information Program @ St. Pat’s (6:00 pm start) Mid-November – receive your Application Access Code letter with your PIN January 16, 2019 – Deadline to submit your application to OUAC May 29, 2019 – Last date by which you can expect a response from an Ontario university. This includes offers of admission, refusals and deferrals June 3, 2019 – Earliest date you may be required to respond to offers of admission and give financial commitment

Add up your top 6 and divide by 6 = your average Entrance Averages Entrance averages are made up from your top 6 Grade 12 University or Mixed Courses (eg ENG 4U1 or ADA 4M1) Add up your top 6 and divide by 6 = your average All REQUIRED courses must be used in your entrance average Recommended course are good to have, but you may apply without them and they do not have to be used in entrance average

Scholarships / Bursaries You should try hard to fund your education with scholarships, bursaries, awards, and student loans. You should talk to your parents/guardians about RESP’s or other financial aid that might be put aside for you! You should research free money! www.yconic.com and www.scholarshipscanada.com Complete the GLSS Student Profile:

You most certainly should learn about applying for OSAP – you can do this right after you apply - as well as completing the LKDSB BURSARY/scholarship application forms that are AVAILABLE AND due BACK to our office by EARLY June, 2019

Scholarships / Bursaries – other - The YMCA Celebration of Youth Awards are $1000 awards available in Feb. 2019 The Kiwanis of the Seaway Award – based on community involvement (essay required) is $1000 - due date to Student Services by early June, 2019 The Dr. Gladdy Award – for future medical studies students (essay required) is $2000 – due date to Student Services by early June, 2019 The Catherine Wilson Awards are school awards for excellent students who are involved in the school community ($3000 awards) The PAIRS scholarships are offered by our industry partners, Arlanxeo and Suncor, and support our deserving grads ($8000 and more!) Two good websites to look at for non-school / school board awards are: www.yconic.com www.scholarshipscanada.com
