Learning Map for Year 5 : Summer 2 2016 Pl Please encourage your child to read each day Film narrative – watching ‘The Piano’ and analysing how the camera and music shows the story and the emotions. Understanding feelings of characters and how they are portrayed. Homework Alternating Literacy and Numeracy, plus free choice. Set on a Tuesday and collected on the following Monday. Swimming ICT to be taught within other subjects such as RE and English. Presentations on iPad apps to be created and presented. Rounders Newspapers - we will learn about the structure of newspapers and then write our own newspaper report using events from the Isle of Wight. PE Life cycles – Understanding the parts of a plant and their function. Investigating what plants need to grow. Looking at human and animal life cycles. English ICT Science Year 5 Theme TBC History / Geography Measurement – convert between units of metric measure, e.g. km and m, cm and m, g and kg. Solve problems involving converting between units of time. Solving word problems with all the above. Music PSHE RE Theme to be decided by children. Maths Keyboards Getting on and falling out – understanding different relationships. Equipping children with techniques to solve issues. Pilgrimage - exploring the concept of life being seen as a journey recognising the stages of life as marked in Christianity and Islam. Angles - measuring angles, identifying acute, obtuse and reflex angles, problem solving links Decimals and percentages – solve problems which require knowing percentage and decimal equivalents of ½ and ¼. Solve problems involving number up to 3 decimal places.
