L.D Partnership Board 19th March 2018 Carers Issues

LD Partnership Board 19th March 2018 An issue we have raised before When a social worker is off work (sickness or holiday) why is there no system for one of their colleagues to be a nominated substitute for them, so that issues can be dealt with in their absence ?

LD Partnership Board 19th March 2018 We discussed why there is so little take-up by carers of opportunities to be involved in working groups etc. The most obvious reason – carers need their time and energies for caring. Carers may wish to be positive, but only give up time if they are angry Carers are not convinced that anything changes as a result of what they say Only very rarely do people who have given up their time get any feedback or summary of the discussion.

LD Partnership Board 19th March 2018 Day care services provided by independent organisations Real concern that not only do CQC not inspect such services, but there are no standards that they are expected to take account of. We are aware that the Council has devised its own in- house guidance for its own provision Could this be circulated to independent providers to set expectations for what they provide, even if it cannot be enforced ?

LD Partnership Board 19th March 2018 DBS checks on those working with vulnerable people If you want to check the criminal record of somebody you want to employ (eg as a Personal Assistant), you have to do this through an organisation that is authorised to do this. We have been told that the Council does not offer this service. This is an important safeguard. How else can it be done ?

LD Partnership Board 19th March 2018 Adult Care Offer consultation The content for this has not yet appeared on the website – but the letter that has started to go out says that it includes ‘proposals to embed strength-based approaches.’ What on earth does this mean, and how are people expected to respond to proposals that are written in language that only professionals understand ?
