April 2, 2018 Turn In: None Take Out: Sit NEXT TO GROUP MEMBERS Agenda: Chinese Dynasties-Time Travel Tourism (TTT) Warm Up: Objectives: * Contextualize the major dynasties in ancient Chinese history. * Recognize and develop an understanding of how contributions of ancient China have influenced the present world in economics, belief systems, education, and government. Homework: 4/3: Time Travel Tourism (TTT) Reading & Research Notes by the end of the period 4/5: TTT Poster and Sales Expo

TTT – Part One What is interesting and notable about your assigned dynasty? Read the intro for your dynasty (can find in \\shssvr02\Public\Maners 9th Grade Block\China-Time Travel Tourism folder) Take notes in an organized format – in your own words (do not copy and paste) Find 1-2 other sources from SHS Databases Take notes AND cite your sources OR print out, read, highlight/mark up & attach article to notes! You will work in the Lab on Monday & the Library on Tuesday You will turn in these notes at the end of class on Tuesday (4/3)

What to focus on for your TTT notes… General Prompt: What is interesting and notable about your assigned dynasty? Relevant Unit Questions: Physical: What is the impact of physical geography on Chinese history? Religion: What is more important: the needs of the individual or the needs of society? How should we behave in order to create an orderly society? Is it more important to have order, or freedom? Government (Dynastic System): What is authority based on? What is power? Why do some people have power over others? How does power change hands? Education: How do you measure learning and merit? How do societies pass on values and knowledge? Defense: How did Asian nations respond to European colonization attempts?

TTT – Part One for Monday 4/2 EVERYONE - Read the article in Public File FIRST! Email article to yourself so you can access it at home? Then divide up information to get more research on in the library tomorrow Make a shared document of sources use because NO ONE CAN USE THE SAME SOURCE except the one in the Public Folder Notes need to be handwritten-no copy & paste Since you picked your group everyone will get the same grade Except absent people – see me after announcements, as your group will be an exception to this rule

TTT – Part Two On Wednesday (4/4) your group will create a poster to share at the Travel Expo on Thursday (4/5) that explains: Why would time travelers want to live in your dynasty’s time period? Make sure your informative poster includes some of the following: 15 Points Focuses on relevant Unit Questions (previous slide) Major People and Events 8 Cultural Universals Geography (interaction between humans and environment) Interesting connections to present day society 5 Points Appealing: a slogan, visuals, and propaganda techniques
