Presentation transcript:

Organization and relationship of matter and living organisms Hierarchy of Life Organization and relationship of matter and living organisms

1. Atom Smallest, indivisible particle of matter. Cannot be divided by chemical means. Ex. Elements on periodic table

2. Molecule Group or 2 or more atoms held together by chemical bonds

ex. Biochemical Molecules Molecules that are part of living organisms Ex. DNA, Carbohydrates, etc.

3. Cell and Organelles Basic unit of lfe Made of nucleus, cytoplasm, cell membrane, and organelles Structure of each made from biochemical molecules

4. tissues A group of similar cells that have a common structure and function

5. Organ A structure composed of two or more tissues types performing one or more specific functions

6. Systems A group of organs and tissues Working together to accomplish a common function.

7. Organism All the organ systems together make up the living body. Highest level of cellular organization

8. ecology Relates organisms to each other and there physical environment Populations, community, ecosystems etc. (sec. IV Science)
