Alkenes and Alkynes

Alkenes CnH2n (subtract 2 additional hydrogens for more than one double bond) Unsaturated hydrocarbons containing DOUBLE BONDS

Naming Find the longest chain CONTAINING the DOUBLE BOND Number the chain so that the double bond has the lowest number possible State the position # after the suffix providing number of carbons, and end in “ene” Name and number branches as per alkane naming

Examples

AlkYnes CnH2n-2 (subtract 2 additional hydrogens for more than one triple bond) Unsaturated hydrocarbons containing TRIPLE BONDS

Naming Find the longest chain CONTAINING the TRIPLE BOND Number the chain so that the double bond has the lowest number possible State the position # after the suffix providing number of carbons, and end in “yne” Name and number branches as per alkane naming
