Project Overview The New Mexico Public Education Department (NMPED) website is an important communication tool used by students, educators, parents, constituents, and the general public. Replacing the existing static website with a content management system, this website will be Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 508 compliant, tested and optimized, include a workflow enabled for approving and publishing of content by trained program staff and integrated with other critical components of the NMPED IT ecosystem [including integration with Ed-Fi Operational Data Store (ODS), NMTEACH, School Grades, SharePoint sites (including internal and external request systems), and other applications that allow for secure access for the submission and/or retrieval of confidential information]. Website integration will increase efficiency and access to current, accurate, high-quality information.
ADA and Section 508 Compliance Because the current NMPED website is not ADA and Section 508 compliant, the US Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights has directed NMPED to bring its website into ADA and Section 508 compliance by December 31, 2017. This plan includes having a compliant website operational by December 31 and work will continue to complete integration in the first quarter of 2018.
