Difference between E-commerce and E-business ??

e-Business Definition A term originally coined by Lou Gerstner is the use of Internet and other networks and information technologies to support e-commerce, enterprise communication and collaboration and web enabled business process, both within a networked enterprise and with its customers and business partners

Cross functional Enterprise applications Companies moving forward to cross-functional enterprises This help in reengineer and improve vital business process all across the enterprises Help in viewing cross-functional enterprises as strategic way to use IT to achieve competitive advantage Companies are now installing ERP,CRM and SCM software from SAP ,Oracle, PeopleSoft

Enterprise Collaboration Systems Are cross-funtional IS that enhance communication, coordination and collaboration among members of business teams and work groups Goal is a)communicate : share information with each other b)coordinate : organize our individual work efforts and use of resources c)collaborate : work together cooperatively on joint projects and assignments E.g.: A virtual team consisting of engineers, business specialist and external consultants use intranet, extranet to collaborate via e-mail, videoconferencing and discussion forms.

Manufacturing and Production System Deals with planning, development and production of products and services with controlling the flow of production Maintenance of production facilities, scheduling of equipments, material and labor planning are some of the activities At strategic level, where to locate new production facilities or where to invest, at mgmt level deciding when and how many products to produce At knowledge level, design of new products and services and at operational level controlling the actions of machines and equipment
