7 Fire Extinguishers

Introduction Instructor Introduction Topic Introduction Class objectives References Preparation Step Information

Transporting a Fire Extinguisher Best method depends on size, weight, and design of extinguisher. Carry fixed nozzle units in stronger hand. Use weaker hand for units with a hose between trigger and nozzle. Place heavier extinguishers on ground near fire; one hand to depress trigger, one hand to hold nozzle and direct stream.

Skill Drill 7-1 Transporting a Fire Extinguisher (1 of 2) 1. Locate the extinguisher and remove it from the mounting bracket. 2. When lifting an extinguisher, always lift with your legs and not your back.

Skill Drill 7-1 Transporting a Fire Extinguisher (2 of 2) 3. Grasp the handle and support the bottom of the extinguisher in your favored or stronger hand. 4. If it has a fixed nozzle, hold the extinguisher at arm’s length.
