Types of polynomials

Monomial An algebraic expression which contains only one term is known as Monomial  Example : 2x, 3x2, 4t, 9p2q, -8mn2

Binomial An algebraic expression which contains two terms is known as Binomial  Example 1 : 2x + 3x2  It is a Binomial, because it contains two terms 2x and 3x2  Example 2 : 9pq + 11p2q It is a Binomial, because it contains two terms 9pq and 11p2q

Trinomial An algebraic expression which contains three terms is known as Trinomial  Example1: 2x + 3x2 - 5x3  It is a Trinomial, because it contains three terms 2x, 3x2 and 5x3  Example2: 12pq + 3x2 - 11 It is a Trinomial, because it contains three terms 12pq, 3x2 and 11

Polynomial An algebraic expression which contains more than three terms is known as Polynomial Example1: 14x3 + 35x2 + 4x + 24 It is a polynomial, because it contains four terms 14x3 , 35x2 , 4x and 24 Example2: 12x4 + 21x2y + 13xy2 + 4y4 – 13 It is a polynomial, because it contains five terms 12x4 , 21x2y , 13xy2 , 4y4 and -13
