Culture Boston shares many roots with greater New England. The Colony was a man’s world. Women did not participate in town meetings and were excluded from decision making in the church. Women were viewed as instruments of Satan. Children were regarded as the property of their parents. The Puritans believed in living simply and peacefully.

Religion Most people practiced Puritanism The Puritans wanted to change the English church by uniting them with the other christian churches. Most of the Massachusetts people would not know of puritanism if the puritans never moved from england the america with the intent of religious freedom

Native Americans In exchange for furs, the colonists gave the Native Americans metal implements, such as axe-heads and knives. In 1636, the Pequot War began between the New England settlers and the Narragansett and Mohegan Indians living in Connecticut and Massachusetts. By the time of early European colonization attempts, there were over 30,000 Native Americans in Massachusetts Algonquin language group. The most well known tribes were the Wampanoag, Pequot, Nipmuck, and the Massachusett.
