SOLIDAR’s Vision SOLIDAR’s vision is for everyone around the world to be able to live in dignity.
What is SOLIDAR? A European network of NGOs and labour movement organisations. SOLIDAR has 47 member organisations based in 25 countries, 20 of which are in the EU.
What is SOLIDAR? SOLIDAR promotes solidarity, equality and social justice in the fields of social affairs, international cooperation and education. Works in alliance with trade unions and civil society organisations in Europe and worldwide.
Main aims To work towards influencing EU and international policies in our fields of works. To link together members to collaborate on common projects and learn from each other. To promote the participation of civil society (citizens), from the developed and developing world, in decision-making processes. Strengthen alliances with organisations committed to our common principles both at European and global level.
History Created in 1948 under the name of ‘International Workers Aid’ (IWA) IWA changed its name to SOLIDAR in 1995 when it moved to Brussels SOLIDAR celebrates its 60th Anniversary this year.
How is SOLIDAR financed? SOLIDAR is financed through Membership Fees National organisations ie UK’s Department for International Development, Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development European institutions ie European Commission’s DG Education and Culture, DG EuropeAid, DG Employment International institutions ie Foundations

Different Areas of Work SOLIDAR has 3 main pillars: Social Affairs International Cooperation Education
Social Affairs Access to high-quality, accessible, affordable social care for all members of society A balanced approach to economic, employment and social policy Social inclusion and freedom from discrimination Active involvement of civil society in policy- making
International Cooperation North-South cooperation International trade Aid and debt Migration and integration Cooperation in the field: development aid projects in Sri Lanka, India, Iraq, the Balkans and Palestine.
International Cooperation The Global Network project: A worldwide alliance of trade unions and civil society organisations working together for a fair globalisation. Areas of work are trade, migration and social protection.
International Cooperation Decent Work Decent Life campaign: SOLIDAR is part of the Decent Work Alliance which promotes decent work and the inclusion of the concept in European and international policies.
