Thee, thy – an older for of the pronouns your, you Vocabulary to Know Aphorism – a statement of truth or opinion expressed in a concise or comical manner Age of Reason - a movement that was marked by an emphasis on rationality rather than tradition, scientific inquiry instead of unquestioning religious dogma, and representative government in place of monarchy. Thee, thy – an older for of the pronouns your, you Morality – rules concerning the difference between right and wrong or good and bad behavior Prose – non-poetic writing (novels, textbooks, newspapers, scientific experiments, etc.

How does it impact the United States and American Literature Enlightenment thinking also leads to the development of Americans and the American character as unique – humanism promotes individuality and equality for all. Enlightenment thinking becomes the basis of the American Revolution – the Declaration of Independence is a rational (scientific) explanation of why the colonies need to be free.

Age of Reason - Defined ►Age of Reason: a movement that was marked by an emphasis on rationality rather than tradition, scientific inquiry instead of unquestioning religious dogma, and representative government in place of monarchy. ►Important writers: Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Paine, Patrick Henry, and any other of the so-called “Founding Fathers.”
