DELIA MEMORIAL SCHOOL(HIP WO) Understanding of physical diABILITIES GROUP 6 CHLOE~LEADER Members: XYDERINE ,REHMAT ,AWAIS ,MUSHED ,LOAY

BACKGROUND With a single tap of a card, elderly pedestrians and those with disabilities can now get a few extra seconds to make their way across Hong Kong’s busy roads. The transport Department on Thursday rolled out a new smart device at a pedestrian crossing in North Point on Hong Kong Island under a trial scheme.

OBJECTIVES/EXPECTED OUTCOMES To understand physical disabilities and physical disabled people in HK. To raise awareness of physical disabilities in junior students of Delia(Hip Wo) To promote harmonious campus and society.

FOCUS QUESTIONS What are physical disabilities and its related characteristics? How do physical disabilities affect our daily lives? Do junior students in our school have enough understanding of physical disabilities. What can we and our government do to improve the lives of the physical disabled.

We have chosen the following data collecting methods Primary data Thematic talk(dec,2017) Classroom experiment Statement and question survey online research Secondary data Literature study ‘smart device gives elderly and disabled more time to cross Hong Kong busy streets. ‘

Definition of physical disability A physical disability is a limitation on a person's physical functioning, mobility, dexterity or stamina. Other physical disabilities include impairments which limit other facets of daily living, such as respiratory disorders, blindness, epilepsy and sleep disorders.

Comparison between congenital and acquired physical disabilites (explanation with examples) Congenital physical disbility A congenital disorder is a medical condition that is present at or before birth. These conditions, also referred to as birth defects, can be acquired during the fetal stage of development or from the genetic make up of the parents. Acquired physical disability An acquired disability occurs after birth. It can be caused by an accident/incident causing injury, or illness. As for specific examples that could be any disability under the sun - physical, mental, neurological etc.

Difficulties faced by physicallt disabled people in HK Cerebral Palsy. Spina Bifida. Poliomyelitis. Stroke. Head Injury. Spinal Cord Injury.

Purpose of the class physical disability experiment/actvity/challenge Purpose to experience the difficulties on how do we feel if we are a disabled person riding the wheelchair around the school

How it feels like to be physically disabled person? How did physical disabled interfere with my abilities and activities Sensory needs, which can be hearing loss and/or visual impairment or sensory processing difficulties and physical difficulties, can occur for a variety of reasons, e.g. congenital conditions (some progressive), injury or disease. The important consideration in this area is the degree to which the difficulties impact on a child’s or young person’s ability to access educational opportunities. What are the most bothersome about being physically disabled? I think the most bothersome is going to the restroom because we need to lift the disabled person off the wheelchair to sit on the toilet sit What things did I have to do to overcome the difficulties I experienced with physical diasbility? We should let him/her pass the hallway or in the general office Now that I have had some experience with physical disability,3 things I could do out of consideration to someone with this disability or to show them that I empathize with the daily problems they counter. Help him/her pushed the wheelchair up the hill Tell the person that are blocking him/her way to let him/her pass Help him/her to pused the wheelchair in/out the classroom/room

Suggestion to the school Seejal 2a 18 Kathleen 2a 22 I suggest that the school should put a physically disabled desk and chair for disabled kids. I suggest that the school should put the disabled toilet to every floor so when there is a emergency, the disabled students can go there quickly when they are in a hurry.

T/f statements and questions Dose DMS (HW) have an accessible toilet for physically disabled students? Is the accessible toilet in our school always available for students to use? Question 1: Which floor is the accessible toilet located in our school G/F 1/F 6/F R/F Question 2: Which party should we turn to if we need to bowrrow a wheelchair? DC room Janitor room General office R/F Qusetion 3: Which party should we turn to if we need to bowrrow a ramp? Janitor room General office Principal office

Analysis (Graph 1: T/F statement)

Explanation of (Graph 1: T/F statement) The statement 1 is 40% so the person does not understand the physical disabilities The statement 2 is 531/2 So the person does understand the physical disabilities

Analysis (Graph 2: questions)

Explanation of graph 2 The q1 is 131/3% does not know where is the disabled toilet The q2 is 60% does Know where we should bowrrow the wheelchair Q3 is 662/3% does know where we should borrow a ramp

summary How much do hip wo students understand physically disabled people I think that 95% of students understand physically disabled people. Do hip wo students have understanding of physically disabled people? I think that a lot of students know much of physically disabled people. and others don’t

We can try to a community centre to help the physically disabled people.
