Incarnation and Abortion

Journal Watch the following video What do you see?

Journal “It is a poverty to decide that a child must die so that you may live as you wish” – Mother Teresa What is Mother Teresa talking about? What do you think?

Incarnation and Abortion The Basic Principle of Human Life Persons are not things, objects to control and design, to be judged by some other, higher than other persons.

Incarnation and Abortion Abortion and the Right to Life The bottom-line is: Human life must be respected and protected absolutely from the moment of conception. From the first moment of his/her existence, a human being must be recognized as having the rights of a person – which includes the right to life.

Incarnation and Abortion Why there should be a law against abortion Laws are created to protect all human beings. The Church believes life begins at the moment of conception. All human beings have the right to life. Already-conceived but not-yet-born children of human beings are human beings.

Discussion Abortion in Canada In Canada, children in the womb may be legally killed at any time, by any means, and for any reason, right up to & during their birth. According to recent statistics, there are over 100,000 abortions/year in Canada. This is a tragedy.

Discussion Abortion in Canada “Human life must be respected and protected absolutely from the moment of conception. From the first moment of his existence, a human being must be recognized as having the rights of a person - among which is the inviolable right of every innocent being to life.” (CCC 2270)  Directly and intentionally taking that life - is gravely wrong.

Discussion Abortion in Canada John Paul II has this to say to women who have had abortions: “The Church is aware of the many factors which may have influenced your decision, and she does not doubt that in many cases it was a painful and even shattering decision. The wound in your heart may not yet have healed. Certainly what happened was and remains terribly wrong. But do not give in to discouragement and do not lose hope. The Father of Mercies is ready to give you His forgiveness and His peace in the Sacrament of Reconciliation.” John Paul II, Evangelium Vitae, 99 (Title in English: The Gospel of Life)

Discussion The Sacrament of Reconciliation – What is it?

Amy Grant – Breath of Heaven

Meaning of the Song? It is about the incarnation from Mary’s perspective. It is a side of the incarnation that we don’t often her about. Her fiat. If something is done by fiat, it is done because of an official order given by someone in authority. God chose Mary to carry Jesus. Her yes. Mary had free will and could have decided not to accept the burden of being the mother of God.

Reflection Questions for your Journal What do you think it was like for Mary to carry Jesus in her womb? Imagine yourself either as Mary, or as Joseph knowing your wife is carrying the Son of God. What would you say to Mary if you could meet her?
