Pantomime (n) - the art/technique of expressing emotion and actions by gestures without speech.

Marcel Marceau https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_lF0XMCssG0

Things NOT used in pantomime: 1. dialogue 2. props 3. costumes 4. projection

Instead, concentrate on: -visibility -gestures -expression -absorption (getting into character) -energy

Three basic qualities of good pantomime: 1. consistency 2. exaggerated resistance 3. exaggerated expressions and gestures

Pantomime expresses two things: emotion and activity.

When we use pantomime To make an artistic point Example- Our Town In dream sequences If theater can’t afford props In rehearsals

Why we use pantomime To improve concentration techniques: develop a specific, consistent size, shape, and weight for all "objects" Practice using your body more expressively: what does the action look like in real life? To improve control: think about the steps/details of activities; don't leave anything out.

Pantomime is not charades. It creates an illusion of reality *Pantomime is not charades. It creates an illusion of reality. Start in the reality of our own experiences and mimic things that happen in life.
