Attitudes Towards Death Hebrews 9:27
Oblivious This is the attitude of the young person (Eccl 11:9-12:5) By rejoice, Solomon means enjoy the blessings of youth Solomon describes the physical difficulties of aging He says remove sorrow then speaks of evil works…Remember now your Creator Oblivious
Fearful Eventually every person will realize that death is inevitable Many make every effort to return to obliviousness (Acts 24:24-25) Others will inquire as to how to become ready (Acts 16:25-30) This was in accordance with the command of Jesus (Mk 16:16) Jesus has also commanded that we repent (Lk 13:3) We must confess Jesus with our mouths (Rom 10:9-10) One must be convicted by the word of God (Rom 10:17) Fearful
Prepared People often prepare for death Peter’s preparation (Jn 21:18-19) Death will reunite the Christian with Jesus Paul said all Christians should have this hope (1Th 4:13-17) Prepared
Expectant Paul actually looked forward to death! (Php 1:19-24) When we become Christians we are transformed (Rom 12:1-2) Each day we should be more like Christ Expectant
Longing Paul came to desire death (2Tim 4:6-8) He could honestly say he had finished (v. 7) Can we leave this life knowing we did all we could? He trusted that God would reward his righteousness (v. 8) Longing
