If I Ran the Zoo Students will each create their own zoo by choosing at least 10 animals they would like to have in their zoo. Each Student’s zoo must have one of each of the different kinds of vertebrates.
Mammals
Amphibians
Reptiles
Fish
Birds
Insects
For each Animal in your Zoo you must include the following: What kind of animal; bird, insect mammal etc. Where they live in the wild What they eat Any special things you will need to have for them to be able to live in a zoo; special food, habitat One paragraph about why you chose them for your zoo.
How you will do the project: Research each one of your animals during library time, computer time and internet access. Keep track of where you get your information. If you go to an internet site copy it and put it in the class Delicious page. (We will be going over this during computer lab time) You can do research at home but most of it will be done during class time. First month will be dedicated to your researching your animals, collecting data, finding pictures on the internet of each of your animals. Once you have collected your data you will be writing up the information on each of the animals on the computer and saving your data to your own flash drive (provided in class)
Once you have all your information you will be putting together a power point presentation to show the class your Zoo. The last two weeks before the project is due we will be working on the power point presentations during computer lab time and during free time in class. You are encouraged to take the project home and work on it with your parents. Perhaps some of you have parents who are good at this sort of thing and can help you out. You don’t have to have a computer at home to do this assignment. It can be done at school.
If I Ran the Zoo by Dr. Seuss Now I am going to read you a book by Dr. Seuss. This book was the inspiration for this project. The kid in this story designed his own zoo as well but there is something very different about his Zoo. Let’s read and find out.
