PWS & the WMO Strategy for Service Delivery The future (GDPFS), possibly WIPPS, needs to evolve to support the provision of seamless forecast services. Consolidation of the SWFDP into an operational framework. New guidelines on the best practices for response to non-nuclear emergencies. WMO Guidelines on Multi-hazard Impact-based Forecast and Warning Services. IPTT on Cataloguing Extreme Weather, Water and Climate Events . Contribution of the SWFDP to DRR via the use of a cascading forecasting process. CAP for emergency alerting and public warning for all hazards. Competency Framework for Public Weather Service Forecasters and Advisors. cbs-16@wmo.int

Where do we go from here? The legacy WMO business model : WWW - 3 components: Observations, Information, Processing & Forecasting Primarily internally focused, NMHS centric Service delivery - Primarily externally focused, user centric The need to deliver good services drives all of the other things we do. Time to turn our business model upside down. cbs-16@wmo.int

cbs-16@wmo.int

Where does CBS go from here? A new “information supply chain” that enables all Members’ services delivery A Future holistic, seamless GDPFS – WIPPS? Over-arching service delivery integrating above components to serve all WMO programs. Increased coordination & collaboration with RAs especially at the requirements and implementation interface. Work collaboratively with CAS, Application Commissions and WMO research bodies. Impact to PWS, its mission and ToRs. OPAG on Service Delivery? Careful not to dilute the “public” side of service delivery. Time now for WMO and CBS to fully embrace that new business model cbs-16@wmo.int

Where does CBS go from here? What is that process then to advance an this concept? What can/should CBS do? The progress we make on understanding and scoping this will benefit the organization regardless of the outcomes of wider studies on the structure and organization of WMO. Time now for WMO and CBS to fully embrace that new business model cbs-16@wmo.int
