Presentation transcript:

Natural calamities:- Drought Floods Earthquake Tsunami

Drought :- where there is no rainfall for a long time.

Floods :- water everywhere due to heavy rainfall.

Floods washing away the shore. People have to move to safer places.

Tsunami :- heavy tides from the seas and oceans.

Destruction due to tsunami

Water rise to great heights.

Earthquake:- buildings collapse

Roads get divided and damaged

People lose lives

Trees get uprooted

Gujarat – earthquake hit area

The powerful earthquake that stuck the kutch area in Gujarat at 8:46 am on 26 January 2001 has been the most damaging earthquake in the last 5 decades in India. The earthquake was felt in most parts of the country and a large area sustained damages . About 20 districts in the state of Gujarat sustained damage. Several towns and large villages, like Bhuj , Anjaar , Vondh and Bhachau sustained widespread destruction.

Rescue operations to help the wounded people buried under the collapsed buildings.

After effects of an earthquake :- Roads get divided Buildings collapse trees get uprooted Dams ,bridges collapse Human beings and animals lose their life

Earthquakes generate seismic waves which can be detected with a sensitive instrument called a seismograph.

Mention the precaution you would likely take in case of an earthquake. Rush to an open area. Sit under a strong table.

Evaluation Name the instrument used to detect an earthquake. Name two natural calamities. Name the condition where there is no rainfall for a long time. Heavy rainfall may lead to ------------------ in many places.
