EQ: How did the US prepare for and win WWII?

1. It’s War Time. Awwww yeeeahhh A. US declares war on Japan Dec. 8,1941 i. Isolationism disappears instantly.

“We will have to take a good many defeats before we have a victory.”

2. Converting the Economy for War a. Convert from commercial to war materials. i. Victory depended on industrial power. b. Key to Victory: i. PRODUCE more than the enemy can destroy. c. Car factories convert to producing tanks, bombers, and other equipment. i. C. F.’s produce 1/3 of all military equipment built during the war.

3. Manning an Army A. Selective Service and Training Act: i. a.k.a. the Draft ii. 5 million volunteered + 10 million drafted = 15 million TOTAL! B. Problems: i. Basic training didn’t prepare for real war. ii. US military was still completely segregated. iii. Lack of size and good equipment.
