How Inventions Have Changed NC The Impact of Changing Technology in Our State

The First Trains in NC In 1848 the NC government passes bill calling for a railway from Goldsboro to Charlotte, a 223 mile stretch. Railways made it much easier to ship goods to market. There are now 3,245 miles of industrial track in NC

The Automobile in NC In 1898 the first automobiles, or horseless buggies, came to NC Travel was previously accomplished by walking or horse and buggy Automobiles made travel far faster There are now an estimated 3,653,665 cars in North Carolina

First in Flight In December of 1903, the Wright Brothers launch their first successful powered flight! The invention of the airplane has revolutionized shipping and travel, not just in the US, but all over the world! Today flight is the main way to rapidly ship goods or travel quickly over long distances
