latitude The lines on a map that run east to west but are measured north to south.

longitude The lines on a map that run north to south but are measured east to west.

physical processes The shape features on the Earth’s surface. (ie: water cycle, erosion, weathering, deposition)

erosion The process by which weathered bits of rock are moved elsewhere by water, wind or ice.

ocean current More or less permanent or continuous, directed movement of ocean water that flows in one of the Earth’s oceans.

earthquake An event in which the ground shakes or trembles, brought about by the collision of tectonic plates.

fossil fuels Any combustible organic material, as oil, coal, or natural gas, derived from the remains of former life.

renewable resources A resource that can be totally replaced or is always available naturally.

nonrenewable resources A resource that cannot be totally replaced.

natural disasters Any event or force of nature that has catastrophic consequences, such as avalanche, earthquake, flood, forest fire, hurricane, lightning, tornado, tsunami, and volcanic eruptions.

capital Includes the buildings, land, machines, money, and other items used to create wealth.

entrepreneurship A person who organizes and manages any enterprise, especially a business, usually with considerable initiative and risk.

life expectancy The average number of years a person born in a particular country might be expected to live.

Gross Domestic Product (GDP) The total value of goods and services produced by a country in a year. Retail is example.

service industries Companies are involved in retail, transport, distribution, food services as well as other service-dominated businesses.

outsourcing To purchase (goods) or subcontract (services) from an outside supplier or source

government regulation A law that controls the way that a business can operate; or all these laws considered together Government Business

business planning goals, strategies and actions that you envision taking to ensure your business’s survival, prosperity, and growth.

literacy The ability to read and write.

human rights A right that is believed to belong justifiably to every person.

economic development indicators A statistic about an economic activity such as Per Capita GDP (average money amount each person makes in a year).

retail A company that sells small amounts of goods to a customer at a time. Example: Walmart
