INFIRMARY MISSION IC Infirmary aims to provide excellent, efficient and primary health care services that is personalized, confidential, and meets the high standards of ambulatory health care by providing medical and urgent treatment, educating our students, emphasizing health promotion, healthy life styles and lifelong disease prevention through professional health care team.

INTERNATIONAL STANDARDS Sensor sink to avoid the spread of bacteria and ensure medical hygiene needed at all times Locked storage space for first aid and medical supplies All Medical equipments kept under lock and labeled properly Medical supplies recommended are now available Toilet facility meets ADA standards for handicapped access Wall mounted FIRE PACK Kit and Fire extinguisher

INTERNATIONAL STANDARDS New fully equipped treatment room for ill patients locked filing cabinet for medical and confidential charts Vinyl floors that are recommended for clinics and hospitals (Hygienic purpose) All electrical outlets and wires placed safely for all equipments needed School health clinic is located on the ground floor of the building, handicap accessible and away from noise-producing machines Separate, private and fully equipped office for each healthcare provider

First aid kits are available in the examination and treatment room and all items needed are available in each kit. Both rooms are equipped with oxygen bottles portable and wall-mounted (nasal canula and oxygen face mask are available) Signage for students and patients guidance New Refrigerator with plug and automatic ice maker Cleaning and sterilization of medical equipments and instruments Collection of blood tubes in Biohazard container Fire System alarm ,Fire Pac kit and Fire extinguisher for any fire emergency Emergency Exit from clinic to outside of the school building to accommodate Emergency Medical Services and transport of injured or ill students to hospital

INTERNATIONAL STANDARDS Emergency bag for any emergency transportation, the Emergency bag is fully equipped with all First Aid supplies, a CPR kit, an Ambu-bag ,a portable Oxygen bottle, a portable blood pressure machine, and a pulse oxymeter that measures O2 saturation in blood and heart rate Waiting area not visible from an external corridor, and the examination room is separate from other infirmary sections which ensure always the privacy and safety of our students and patients

Infection Control Measures The health clinic should be designed to follow infection control practices and universal precautions as defined by Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations. This includes environmental sanitation; cleaning and sterilization of equipment and supplies; and collection, storage, and disposal of hazardous and medical waste; Therefore Cleaning and sterilization of medical equipments is now done by the school nurse by using a disinfectant solution for used instruments Collection of blood tubes is done on daily basis and sent labeled to the AUBMC Lab in a specific Biohazard container, as well all the medical supplies are stored properly in two store cabinets Hazardous waste are now placed in specific trash bags and sent for incinerator Finishes on all surfaces, including floors, walls, counter tops, beds and all other fixtures in the clinic is washable and waterproof due to exposure to blood and other body fluids as well a disinfectant spray cleaner is now used to clean furniture on daily basis

Design & decoration The new IC Infirmary design is such fresh and welcoming for students, parents and employees. The colors are cheerful and vital, the lights are warm, the reception area is furnished with modern leather couches ,a flower wall paper is placed to create a very unique and friendly atmosphere and a LCD television with DVD is placed as well for continuing health education and topics. Signage are now available for students and patients guidance ,the infirmary space is now visibly clear and well organized

Providing First aid treatment for any accident or health problem Providing Emergency treatment according to international standards Providing treatment of chronic illness such as asthma, Diabetes.. Diagnosing diseases and other health problems by physical examination Ordering laboratory and other diagnostic tests Prescribing medications and treatment of health problems Inserting IV hydration Providing EKG test when needed Administering medication according to physician orders (po,injections) Issuing health care intervention orders Issuing referrals to specialist when needed Consulting with appropriate school personnel concerning the health of a student Providing health education Identifying health and safety concerns Identifying communicable diseases and treatment Promoting healthy life styles Promoting community involvement Supporting and advocating for nutritious foods Ensuring food safety at school

What are the health services provided by the IC Infirmary? Physical and mental health assessment Development and implementation of individualized health care plans for students with special health care needs or those with chronic health conditions Health counseling Mandated screenings like vision, hearing, immunization status, evaluation of TB testing for new school employees, etc. Monitoring for the presence of infectious diseases and use the public health precautions to prevent the spread of infection in the school Skilled nursing services for students Case management for students with chronic and special health care needs Development and implementation of emergency health care plans and the provision of emergency care and first aid Acting as a liaison for the school, parents, and community health services Collaboration with other school professionals to address student’s health and their educational needs

Clinic Furnishings Furniture at IC Infirmary is new, durable and easily sanitized The below list is now available at our Infirmary: Physical examination bed with GYN exam facility Computer with internet connection for record keeping and accessing web resources Telephone with a separate line so it will always be accessible to place emergency calls Fax machine for sending and receiving health information New printer and photocopy machine New File shelves for reference material and needed documents Two new Bulletin boards for health education topics and promotion materials New Chairs for the waiting and examination area Refrigerator with automatic ice maker and secure lock for medications and vaccines

Medical Supplies First Aid kit that includes all first aid supplies None of the following list was available in the IC Infirmary, however its recommended by the International standards of school health centers. Therefore, with the upgrade of IC Infirmary, we now have all the medical supplies required as follows: First Aid kit that includes all first aid supplies Burn Kit that includes all burn supplies CPR Kit that includes ambu-bag and resuscitation supplies Sport-o-pac kit that includes all supplies needed for sports accidents or injuries Pulse Oxymeter to measure oxygen in blood and heart rate Vision testing charts Diabetic monitor EKG machine Arm slings, finger splints and wrist guards Medication cabinet (All medication needed) Re-charging portable otoscope and ophthalmoscope Personal protection kit, surface disinfectants and Biohazard Products, Antiseptic cleaners and closures IV insertion set Nebulizers (Oxygen therapy), Oxygen bottles Petrolatum gauze pads Sterile Dressing sets Orthopedic supports Inhalants and Swabs Sterile Scissors and instruments Nose bleed splint Single use vaginal speculum Sharps Container Biohazard and Normal waste containers
