Fungal community structure analysis by DGGE of ribosomal 18S and/or ITS sequences All WP1 samples have been run, preliminary data analysis of band patterns completed (see IPS talk) Some samples will be re-run and used for cutting of bands, re-amplification and sequencing Clone library to be established from SC samples Expected to yield 2 communications

IV. Community level physiological profiling by MicroResp Initial methodology did not give good data due to low activity, hence 14C-labeled substrates used New method validated for peat by checking for optimum incubation time, moisture content effects and sample ageing effects All WP1 samples completed and data analysis finished (see Steve’s IPS talk) Short communication on method development in progress Communication using WP1 data probably end of year
