Logging in & the Welcome tab

UNIFI – Logging in On the desktop, there are two UNIFI icons. Double-click the UNIFI Portal icon to launch the login dialog. When starting UNIFI for the first time, your password is automatically set to your user name. The system prompts you to change your password before you can proceed. Similar prompts to change your password can appear from time to time depending on policies that govern user accounts, which your organization's management defines. When you log on to UNIFI software, you typically do so using your default role. This role was assigned to you when your account was created and is the role that you use most often. Roles will be discussed in a later module. If you have multiple roles, you can select the role that you want to use during this session. By default, the number of login attempts is set to 4. After this number has been exceeded, your account will be locked out. For this reason, ensure there is always a backup administrator account configured. > Please log in with the username provided to you or that you created.

Welcome to UNIFI When you first log into UNIFI, the system displays a Welcome page to help you get started with the system. From the Welcome page, you can access information to learn more about the system's capabilities, directly access Administration tasks, or begin work on new or existing projects. After you become more familiar with the system, you can choose not to display the Welcome page when you next log into the system. To do so, clear the "Show this tab at startup" check box.

Portal design & navigation

The UNIFI Portal Design Tabs Pages/ Sections Breadcrumb Navigation and/or task list Everything within UNIFI is contained within a single portal window. Whenever a UNIFI application is launched, a separate tab is opened. Within an application, there may be multiple pages or sections that divide the various areas of that application. The breadcrumb navigation shows you where you currently are and provides a ‘back’ button. For some applications, there is a left-hand panel that provides navigation and/or a task list.

The UNIFI Portal Design The UNIFI Main Menu The UNIFI Main Menu allows you to access main areas of UNIFI without having to go back to ‘My Work’ or the Administration center.

The UNIFI Portal Design User Assistance (“Help”) Quick Search Utility panel User assistance is available at any time by clicking the blue question mark. Context sensitive help is available via the drop down arrow. The Quick Search box allows you to search all folders you have access to using key words. Depending on the application, there may be multiple Utility panels available that are opened by clicking the Utility icons in the lower right hand corner of the portal window. My Work

My Work >> Select the “My Work” tab. The “Current Work” page should be displayed. The “My Work” tab is considered your ‘one stop shop’ for working with your analyses. In the left hand panel, you can create a new analysis, create a new analysis method, browse your folders and import data. In addition, you can quickly access recently viewed items (analyses, methods, reports, etc). The first page of “My Work” provides an overview of any analyses that are currently in process. These may be analyses that are still acquiring, but it may also reflect work that you are not ready to save yet. So you may have been in the middle of reviewing a large analysis with lots of samples & components but had to leave for the day – or had to go to a meeting – UNIFI can preserve the analysis and any changes you have made. This allows you to resume later and decide when you are ready to save. >> Click the “Recent Work” page The “Recent Work” page displays any analyses or methods that you recently saved. You can choose the timeframe you desire – which will filter the list accordingly. (Click the ‘Time Period’ drop down)

My Work >> Click the “Instrument Systems” page The “Instrument Systems” page shows the systems you have access to. We will return here in a moment. >> Click the “Reports to Sign” page UNIFI incorporates enhanced electronic signature capabilities which includes customizable ‘signature methods’. These define what users can sign at what levels. If it is your turn to sign off on a report, it shows up here.

Explorer & Item Types You may access the UNIFI Explorer by either: Clicking “Browse” in the left hand task panel in My Work Selecting “Explorer” from the UNIFI Main Menu

Explorer The UNIFI Explorer allows you to browse, sort, filter and search for items in the database. You can even specify special views for different folders or specific types of data. For basic browsing, select the folder on the left and view its contents on the right.

Explorer To filter the contents of a filter, enter the desired criteria below the column name and press Enter. (For text fields, a portion of the word is sufficient – no need to enter “*” or another wildcard character.)

Explorer To open an item, double-click or right-click and select ‘Open’ from the context menu. Other actions (such as Export or Print) are available in the context menu.

Item Types Sample Set Analysis Analysis Method File Data Group Sample Data Analysis Sample Result Analysis Method File Data Group File Data Sample Set - A Sample Set contains sample data, injection data, and raw data generated from running a sample list. A sample set contains the experimental record, including the sample list and Analysis Method parameters used to acquire the raw data. Sample Data - Raw data for a single injection. It includes the experimental record and the raw data. Analysis - A collection of one or more results that are chemically and/or mathematically related to one another. You can create an analysis from new raw data or from existing data. Analyses are UNIFI items that are containers for the Analysis Method, Sample Results, and Component Calibration Curves. Sample Result - Processed data and parameters for a single injection. It also includes the experimental record and a link to the raw data. Analysis Method - A collection of parameters that specify how to acquire, process, and report analytical data from instruments. Analysis methods are stored in the UNIFI database and are accessible from within the UNIFI Explorer. File Data Group – A collection of one or more imported items (non-UNIFI data)

Item Types Startup/Shutdown Method Report Template Report Object Signature Method Report Startup/Shutdown Method – A method used to startup or shutdown an instrument system. Report Template - A report template defines layout and format of the data you select to include in a report by means of the report objects you place within it. Plots, tables, text, and fields are examples of report objects. You can modify template settings and individual and grouped report objects to filter, group, and sort data in reports generated from the template. Report Object - Report objects are individual elements that you place within a Report Template. Examples of report objects include plots, tables, text, graphics, images, specialized objects such as the analysis method, sample list, and individual fields. Signature Method - Defines the overall process for reviewing and approving reports.A signature method consists of a signature sequence that contains any number of signature levels. Each signature level must be completed with an Approved action in order to complete the signature process. Report – Either a natively generated or imported report.

Item Types Qualification Method Printer Method Report Extraction Method Adobe Acrobat File Data Qualification Method – A set of procedures and tests to perform on an instrument and/or software to confirm that the instrument or software is working according to its design specifications and its intended use. Qualification tests and procedures typically include these four types: IQ - Installation qualification OQ - Operational qualification PQ - Performance qualification MP - Maintenance procedures Printer Method - A Printer Method defines parameters that support or control the import of printed data through the print driver and the automated modification of fields of print data already in the UNIFI repository. A Printer Method can include a an Extraction Method for mapping extracted metadata values to fields. Report Extraction Method - Defines and applies a set of visual rules to extract metadata from documents and reports upon printing them into UNIFI. A Report Extraction method then maps the extracted data into fields that you can later use to search and find printed documents in the UNIFI database. You can also apply a Report Extraction method to a report that you view in the UNIFI Report Viewer. Adobe Acrobat File Data – An imported pdf file

Quick Search

Quick Search From anywhere in UNIFI, you can search all folders you have access to by entering keywords into the Quick Search box in the upper right corner of the UNIFI portal. A portion of the word is sufficient – no need to enter “*” or another wildcard character. The word does not need to be contained within the item name or description. For example, the search results may include methods, analyses or reports that contain the specified component name. >> Enter “plav” in the Quick Search box and press Enter.

Quick Search The Quick Search results dialog box is displayed with categorized results. Hover over one of the results to see details. Double-click to open. Click the ‘Advanced Search’ button to open Explorer. This allows you to refine your search criteria.
