In salinized irrigated soils… Na salt affected… Na causes bonds in clay to break apart, become like mush, harden, seal off pores, soil om breaks down quicker, replaces Ca & Mg on exchangeable sites on clay micelles and competes for K uptake Soils remain more wet due to Na affinity for water taking away from the plants uptake ability Sat. hydraulic conductivity decreases Pores clog with dislodged silt or clay particles, bridging gaps in narrow/fine pores
