What Is SOLUTIONS? Mission & History Purpose: The AFCEA SOLUTIONS Series promotes a detailed dialogue between government and industry on issues of national importance. We seek a balanced approach wherein the government can share current thinking and direction, and industry can offer their perspective and input on current and projected capability. These events will be compact, with focused tracks, to promote interactive dialogue. History: Concept created by AFCEA International President’s from transformational meetings with senior government leadership to identify key issues and concerns in 2007 AFCEA engaged the AFCEA Technology Committee to work (probono) the event design and program in cooperation with the gov/mil advisors Solutions evolved to a series of conferences tackling key government IT challenges, meeting three-four times per year

Conference Leadership Roles & Responsibilities 1. VOLUNTEER PROFESSIONALS a. Technology Committee Chair (Deb Dunie) Provides Oversight and Direction a. Technology Committee Members (Steve James, Scott Winn, Rick Novak, et al) Track Leads and Moderators 2. AFCEA INTERNATIONAL STAFF President (Kent Schneider): Leads AFCEA and allocates resources. Visionary for Solutions VP& Committee Co-Lead (Jim Griggs): Supports committee; handles conference logistics; provides continuity 3. INDUSTRY SPONSORS Assist with event planning and coordination Provide financial resources to enable the conference

SOLTUTIONS CONFERENCE STRUCTURE 2 day event at GMU in Fairfax, VA 90-120 minute Plenary/Town Hall sessions 2 Concurrent tracks broken into 4 sessions each PowerPoint-free zone in track rooms (with very limited exceptions) Tabletop exhibits/display area AFCEA handles all of the logistics Broadcast of plenary sessions (usually by DISA)

KEY Differentiators: Event programs designed by the AFCEA Volunteer Tech Committee in cooperation with Gov/Mil partners from beginning to end Hybrid conference with both in-person and online components HIGHLY INTERACTIVE SESSIONS … a PowerPoint-free zone Event embraces controversial topics – not afraid of lively dialogue Initial session themes are shaped around questions to be answered with a goal of driving towards potential solutions or actions Use of web 2.0 technologies for both planning and execution AFCEA is not-for-profit

CUI Panel Session Useful information Schedule Wednesday 19 May, 2010 Panel Time – from 1030-1200 (please plan to arrive by 1015) Introductions – 5 minutes Opening Remarks – from 5-10 minutes for each person Open discussion and question and answer time – about an hour Format Similar to a morning “talk show” (obviously more Phil Donahue than Jerry Springer) Seated on the stage. No podium. No Slides. Moderator will introduce each participant sequentially, immediately prior to their opening remarks Very interactive; ongoing conversation/dialogue with the audience Questions for the Town Hall Participants Limited opening remarks, and the moderator will open with softball questions: -- “What do you see as your top three concerns about subject?” -- “What are the most important decisions facing the US on subject? Moderator will solicit local audience and virtual attendees for questions Is there a question you (speaker) would like to have asked of you? Of your fellow speakers?
