Welcome to Thorpe Nursery

Session Times-Term time only (Subject to availability) Our Nursery has places for 52 children (26 in the morning and 26 in the afternoon) and we accept them the term after their third birthday. From September 2015 parents can indicate which five hour Government Funded sessions they would like their child to attend. Children have the opportunity to have lunchtime sessions at school, either before or after their Nursery session at a cost of £3.00 including lunch. In addition if you wish to access more than the five free Government Sessions you will be able to request additional sessions at a cost of £16.00 a day which will include a free lunch. Session Times-Term time only (Subject to availability) 8.30 to 11.30 am Monday - Friday 12.30 to 3.30 pm Monday - Friday

We strongly believe in offering the same educational opportunities to all the children in our care. We value the diversity of our Nursery’s population. We seek to actively promote positive attitudes towards our multi-cultural society. Our bilingual pupils are supported by a talented team of practitioners, including teaching, bilingual and support staff.

Ofsted Comments In Nursery there is a good balance of adult-led and child-chosen activities. All children in the Nursery develop an understanding of the mathematical skills they need to complete simple calculations. Children enjoy being able to follow their own interests, subtly influenced by the range of equipment made available. All children in the Nursery, regardless of ability or special needs, make good progress in developing an understanding of the sounds that letters make.

Partnership With Parents We actively encourage the involvement of parents. We recognise the fact that parents are the child’s first educators and pride ourselves on our effective partnership. In the Nursery we operate a Key Person system whereby each child has an adult assigned to them. We encourage parents to attend Parent Open Sessions and Consultations each term to discuss their child’s progress with the teacher and Key Persons.

Teaching and Learning The principles which guide the work of all the nursery practitioners are grouped into four themes: A unique child – every child is a competent learner from birth who can be resilient, capable and self-assured. Positive relationships – children learn to be strong and independent from a base of caring and secure relationships Enabling environments – the environment plays a key role in supporting and extending children’s development and learning Learning and Development – children develop at different rates and in different ways. We ensure that we see children as individuals with varying needs..
