Booking the train tickets A tourist goes to a booking office of a travel agency to have a train reservation. ( T: tourist C: clerk) C: Can I help you, sir? T: Id like to make a reservation for a ticket to Shenzhen for Friday. Which train should I take? C: We have train 77 and train 15. Train 77 is a direct train. Train 15 is a night train. T: I will take train 15, please. C: Your name, please. T: Peter Smith. C: One-way ticket, or round trip ticket? T: One-way ticket, please. C: Do you want a sleeping berth ticket? T: Yes, one soft berth ticket, please. What platform does the train leave from? C: It leaves from platform 7. T: What kind of train is it? An express train? C: Yes, it is an express train. It only stops at big stations. The train leaves at 7 oclock in the evening and arrives at 8 the next morning. You can have a good sleep on the train, the next morning, when you wake up, you will find you have already arrived in Shenzhen. Thus, the trip wont be boring. T: Thats great. Thank you. T: Next morning, if possible. R: Thats the 27th of August. Yes, we have flights at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. T: I prefer a morning flight. By the way, what type of aircraft is it? R: Boeing 777. How do you wish to fly, sir, economy or first class? And window seats or aisle seats? T: Economy, and window seats, please. R: All right. Will you pay in cash or by credit card, sir? T: By credit card. By the way, is that a non-stop flight? R: No. Youll have to make a stopover in Tokyo, Japan. Itll be a three-hour layover, and youve supposed to remain on board until the plane takes off again. T: Do you have a direct flight? R: Im sorry, we dont have any direct flight on that day. We have Shanghai-Los Angeles on-stop flights only on Tuesday and Saturday. Will you change the date of your flight? T: Oh, no. How long will the flight take? I mean the indirect flight. R: Its about 16 hours, including the layover in Tokyo. T: All right, then. Two tickets for that flight. R: Good. May I have your name, please? T: Im Henry Smith, my wifes Anne Smith. R: Thank you, Mr. Smith. Ive booked you on China Eastern Airlines, flight number MU192, leaving from Pudong International Airport, at 10 a.m., 27th of August.
