SOL Review The Moon

Our MOON Moonlight (allows some visibility at night) is caused by reflection of Sun’s visible light rays Tides are created by gravitational pull on large bodies of Earth water (oceans) … mostly by the Moon (some by Sun) Moon = 1/6th force of Gravity vs. on Earth (less mass), but still enough to affect us

Our MOON: 29½ days per complete orbit Phases: Waxing Moon is “new” … Waning  passed ½-way, ‘dying’ Path: ~ same path as Sun … “rises” in East & moves to West Face: we always see the same side of the Moon! (Moon rotates @ same speed as it orbits Earth

Solar Eclipse: Earth’s view of Sun blocked by Moon Our MOON and ECLIPSES Lunar Eclipse: Moon’s view of Sun blocked by Earth
