Climate Graphs
Aims To know and understand how to draw and interpret a climate graph To develop your thinking skills
How to construct a climate graph… always plot the temperature points in the middle of the months on the x axis 2. Work out the right scale for each axis (look at your highest temperature and rainfall figures). Draw the graph using bars for rainfall and a line for temperature.
Task You are now going to draw a climate graph for London. You need to set your graph paper out in the following way Make sure that you label all axes and you use a pencil Remember you need bars for rainfall and line for temperature
Plot your own climate graph! Month Jan Fe Ma Apr Jun Jul Aug Sep Oct Nov Dec Rainfall mm 54 40 37 46 45 57 59 49 64 48 Temp0C 4 5 7 9 12 16 18 17 15 11 8 London (Kew)
Now do the following activities using your climate graph Describe how the temperature changes over a year in London (general trend, quote specific figures – when is at its highest and lowest) Describe how the rainfall varies over a year in London (general trend, quote specific figures – when is at its highest and lowest)
Living Climate Graph Using the worksheet called ‘Living climate graph’ Cut out the graph and put it in the centre of a page Put the statements in the correct place on you chart. Then write an explanation to why you put the statements where you did.
