Operating within the Anglican Church in North America since 2009 The Order of the Daughters Holy Cross The Order of the Daughters of the Holy Cross Congratulates the Anglican Diocese of the South on its Inaugural Synod. This historical development is an example of the growth of the Anglican Church in North America which members of the Order have prayed for daily since both the Order and the ACNA came into being in 2009. Operating within the Anglican Church in North America since 2009

DHC: Who We Are “The vision of the Order of the Daughters of the Holy Cross is to gather Anglican women and girls into a nurturing and empowering community called to be servants of Jesus as He unites and builds up His Body, the Church.” The DHC Vision Statement Answers Jesus’ Call to Serve in His New Work. The Vision of The Order of the Daughters of the Holy Cross is to gather Anglican women and girls into a nurturing and empowering community called to be servants of Jesus as He unites and builds up His Body, the Church. It is the Lord Jesus, who is building His Church. In the words of an early Christian folk song: “He is building by his plan with the lively stones of man. God is building a house that will stand.” We offer ourselves to the Master Builder not only to be those living stones but to work faithfully and obediently as his skilled construction laborers.

The Rt. Rev. Keith L. Ackerman is the Order’s Patron “I whole-heartedly endorse the Daughters of the Holy Cross, and I encourage all clergy within the ACNA to promote this Order to all women of the Province.” The Right Reverend Keith L. Ackerman is the Order’s Patron. The Daughters are grateful to the Lord for providing such a widely revered leader to be its spiritual covering. In the past Bishop Ackerman has served as Patron, Bishop Visitor or Bishop Protector for over 30 Religious Orders and Societies. After hosting a weekend meeting of the DHC Provincial Council, he recently said, “I whole-heartedly endorse the Daughters of the Holy Cross, and I encourage all clergy within the ACNA to promote this Order to all women of the Province.

Women Are Called by God to DHC 3- Month Discernment Period Candidate Study Mentor guidance Priestly counsel Women Are Called by God to DHC. Members do not decide themselves that they will join the Order, but rather are called into the Order by the Lord Jesus, whose cross they wear. It is the call and the vow that make a religious order much more than an organization. Under the direction of her study mentor who is a member of the Order, each candidate undergoes a three-month period of study and discernment to test and confirm her call using The Candidate Study Manual, the Bible, prayer, reflection and spiritual direction. For the brief period from September through December 2009, a temporary special provision was made for current or former members of the Order of the Daughters of the King to join The Order of the Daughters of the Holy Cross as Charter Members without the three-month preparation period.

The Cross of the Order Symbolizes All Jesus Accomplished And the Daughter’s Desire to Use Her Rule to Follow Him The Cross of the Order Symbolizes All Jesus Accomplished and the Daughter’s Desire to Use Her Rule to Follow Him. You can see the Latin words for the four parts of our vow on the Cross of the Order: Oratio,Prayer, Servitium, Service, Studium, Study, Evangelium, Gospel or Good News. The Cross of the Order is to be worn habitually. Each time a Daughter prayerfully puts on her cross, she reminds herself of the work Jesus completed on the cross, taking away her sins and the sins of the whole world. Out of her gratitude for Jesus’ sacrifice and redeeming love, she renews her commitment to live by the four-part Rule of Life of the Order.

DHC: What We Believe We live by a life-long vow to a 4-fold rule: PRAYER Communication with God via prayer is a path to deeper relationship with the Father, through the Son, and in the power of the Holy Spirit. SERVICE We seek daily to do the will of God, remembering Jesus’ words: “Inasmuch as you have done it unto the least of these my children, you have done it unto me.”

DHC: What We Believe STUDY EVANGELISM We study God’s word to gain wisdom, understanding, discernment and strength. EVANGELISM We make a conscientious and constant effort to bring others into a relationship with Christ.

DHC: What We Do Daughters practice their vow in several actions of prayer, service, study and evangelism. Assistance in Prayer and Worship The four-part Rule of Life focused on Prayer, Service, Study, and Evangelism, is the glue that bonds members of The Order into the nurturing and empowering community articulated in our Vision Statement. The personal rule of life each member of the Order writes is carefully and prayerfully developed to specify how the four areas will characterize her life. As members live by the Order’s Rule, they are equipped to be servants Jesus can use as He builds His Church.

Prayer of the Order O gracious and Holy Father, that thy Son may be glorified, give thy Daughters wisdom to perceive thee, intelligence to understand thee, diligence to seek thee, patience to wait for thee, eyes to behold thee, a heart to meditate upon thee, and a life to proclaim thee; by the power of the Holy Spirit through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Amen. Daughters pray this Prayer of the Order daily. O gracious and Holy Father, that thy Son may be glorified, give thy Daughters wisdom to perceive thee, intelligence to understand thee, diligence to seek thee, patience to wait for thee, eyes to behold thee, a heart to meditate upon thee, and a life to proclaim thee; by the power of the Holy Spirit through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Amen. It was based on an ancient prayer attributed to St. Benedict. Daughters are found in every diocese and participating group within the ACNA. In addition to praying for the Order, they also pray daily for their own congregation and clergy and for the whole ACNA and its lead Bishops. We feel we have been called by God to embody and pray for the unity of the whole Province.
