ONLINE vs. F-TO-F DISCUSSION A LITTLE SURVEY OF YOUR VIEWS

LEARNING DO STUDENTS LEARN MORE IN THE ONLINE COURSE OR THE CLASSROOM COURSE? A = ONLINE B= FACE-2-FACE

CRITICAL THINKING DO STUDENTS DEMONSTRATE HIGHER LEVELS OF THINKING IN ONLINE DISCUSSION OR CLASSROOM DISCUSSION? A = ONLINE B = CLASSROOM C = NO REAL DIFFERENCE

HOW CAN WE FACILITATE HIGHER LEVELS OF CRITICAL THINKING? A = BY MANAGING THE DISCUSSION, E.G., ASSIGNING ROLES; B = BY STAYING OUT OF THE DISCUSSION; C = BY REQUIRING ANALYSES AT AN ABSTRACT LEVEL vs. EXAMPLES; D = BY REQUIRING STUDENTS TO REPORT OUT AS INDIVIDUALS vs. CONSENSUS;

ONE MAJOR REASON WHY MORE STUDENTS DON’T ENGAGE IN GENUINE DEBATE IS BECAUSE: They avoid conflict; They are not motivated to invest real emotions; They tend to confuse arguing ideas with labeling people; They do not see the discussion as furthering their individual goals; They are not mature learners; All of the above;
