Figurative Language

TEKS 5.8A Evaluate the impact of sensory details, imagery, and figurative language in literacy text

Objectives Students will have an understanding of the difference between a simile and a metaphor Students will actively engage in a classroom activity about similes and metaphors

Constructivist Approach The constructivist approach will be used in this lesson. Students will be doing hand on activities with the help of the instructor.

Whole Class Instruction The class will discuss the difference between metaphors and similes Students will listen to the songs “Firework” by Katy Perry and “Smile” By Uncle Kracker Every time students hear a simile or metaphor, they will raise their hands

Small Group Instruction As a small group students will make up their own metaphors and similes

Individual Instruction Students will find metaphors and similes in books, newspapers, magazines, or television programs and write them down
