IPUMS CPS Workshop

WELCOME! Welcome to the first ever IPUMS CPS workshop! You are at the Minnesota Population Center on the University of Minnesota campus. We’ve been hard at work getting ready for your arrival and we’re so glad you’re here! We’ve got two and a half days prepared for you to learn about the CPS and to use IPUMS CPS to try your hand at linking CPS data together. In your folder is an agenda which we plan to stick to pretty closely. We will begin at 8:30 every day and end around 4:30. On Wednesday we will plan to have you out of here around 1pm. We have a social hour planned for this evening at Town Hall Brewery which is right next to the Marriott where most of you are staying. You may notice that we haven’t built in breaks, but you’ll get at least one every morning! We will spend mornings in this room. Restrooms are out the main doors and to the right or out the back doors and to the left. We will have lunch in this room and then head to the lab which is nearby for the hands on component of the workshop. We have created a set of exercises for you to work through. We want you to work at your own pace. You may choose to do some or all of the exercises. You may also spend lab time trying to think through some of your ideas for using linked CPS data. There will be several IPUMS staff members in the lab so please feel free to ask for help as you need it.
