PPAR-γ expression in peritoneal endometriotic lesions correlates with pain experienced by patients  Brett McKinnon, Ph.D., Nick A. Bersinger, Ph.D., Alexander W. Huber, M.D., Annette Kuhn, M.D., Michael D. Mueller, M.D.  Fertility and Sterility  Volume 93, Issue 1, Pages 293-296 (January 2010) DOI: 10.1016/j.fertnstert.2009.07.980 Copyright © 2010 American Society for Reproductive Medicine Terms and Conditions

Figure 1 The percentage of epithelial and stromal cells immunoreactive to the antirabbit peroxisome proliferation–activated receptor gamma (PPAR-γ) antibody was positively correlated with the pain reported by women before surgery. (A) Both epithelial and stromal cells in endometriotic lesions were immunoreactive to the antirabbit PPAR-γ antibody. Scale bar represents 100 μm. The percentage of endometriotic cells in peritoneal lesions immunoreactive to an antirabbit PPAR-γ antibody was significantly positively correlated with (B) dyspareunia and (C) pelvic pain. The percentage of endometriotic cells in peritoneal lesions excised from women with only peritoneal lesions that were immunoreactive to the antirabbit PPAR-γ antibody was significantly positively correlated with (D) dyspareunia, (E) pelvic pain, and (F) dysmenorrhea.
