10-11 November 2014, Budapest, Hungary Statement for the conference Family based on Partnership – a Public Good? 10-11 November 2014, Budapest, Hungary

Who I am and who I am not the president of Young Social Democrats the head of Equality and Social Housing department at the Ministry of Social Affairs the politician on local level the member of the“Orange Club” not a researcher, analysts, nor came from academic level no dependants in my family but happily married Lucie Válová

Family is a public good - what kind of family sells the best nowadays? „let people do what they want, do not regulate their relations, it is social engineering“ „family is a basis of state: it consists only of man, woman and children“ „such a family is a standard one and only this kind of family needs to be supported“ Lucie Válová

Each family is different, so the approach must be individual. Lucie Válová

“Social Democratic Measurements for Helping Parents” (by Orange Club) The depth and the strength of partnership in the families is very connected with the gender equality “Social Democratic Measurements for Helping Parents” (by Orange Club)  Support of pre-school facilities Fight against gender pay gap Obligatory division of parental care for both parents Care of children and elderly needs to be recognized and can´t depend only on women Support of single-parents Participation of women in politics Lucie Válová

Do women want to participate on public life? women do not want to go to politics women do not want to deal with politics as they feel it is men´s discipline traditional concept: men work and feed a family, women take care about home and children Lucie Válová

Where is the CzR going to now? Policy Statement of the Czech Government to supply the principle of equality between women and men to focus on the suppression of gender-based violence to strive for better reconciliation of work, private and family life the provision of sufficient capacity at preschool facilities the support of flexible and also stable working arrangements seek for promotion of an equal pay for equal work higher representation of women in decision-making positions Lucie Válová

Numbers and statistics only 25 % of women in political decision-making positions in 2013. representation of women in decision-making bodies of the main stakeholders only 14.3 % in 2012 men predominate in decision-making positions gender pay gap in 2013 was nearly 21.5 % and subsequently the gender pension gap was 18.1 % lack of capacity of the preschool facilities The part-time employment is still used more by women than men Overall all these current phenomenon have their consequences in the families and affect family relationships Lucie Válová

What do we do to support familes PROGRESS project: the Action plan for balanced representation of women and men in decision-making positions and other related measures project proposals focused on prejudices accompanied with unusual type of a family. (homosexual adoptions, promotion of men taking parental leave) Within Young Social Democrats we fous on campaign for social media where we want to tackle some issues like LGBT, feminism and in general families as such If equality is concerned we cannot make a wrong step! Lucie Válová

Thank you all and good luck with all progressive proposals ! Lucie Válová valova.lucie@email.cz Lucie Válová
