Books In The First Chapter In the first chapter, the writer cites some books: Pranks of Priapus The Grecian Way of Love Principj di Scienza Nuova The Garden of Proserpina Gods, Men and Heroes

The Close Relationship With The Book: The first chapter starts with the presentation of a book. It is described as a book think, old and damaged… but the intelligent reader can understand that this book becomes the focus of the writer attention. We can say, that the book is a celebrative book.

The Main Characters: Roland Michell: Randolph Henry Ash:

Ash’s Letters During his research in the London Library, Roland lays, under page 300 of the book, two letters, writting by Ash, but with no year. Both begans with “Dear Madam”. Roland is shocked and, in the same time, he is thrilled. His mind busied itself automatically with dating and placing this unachiaved dialogue, with an unidentified woman.

Roland Michell He is a part-time research assistent to Professor Blackadder, who had been editing Ash’s Complete Works since 1915. This is the reason why the writer shows as Roland, while he researchs a piace of information about Ash, in the London Library.

Randolph Henry Ash The subject of Roland’s research is Ash, who is an important writer and poet during the Victorian Age. He is known as a man whose life seemed to be all in his mind, who lived a quiete and exemplary married life four fourty years… but… through Roland’s investigation we can know another reality about him.
