Humanism (What) Rediscovery of man as an individual Balance between religious faith (from heart) & reason (from brain) During the Renaissance – EVERYBODY was religious!! Humanism was not opposed to religion. Most paintings dealt with religion

Before the Renaissance (Why) How did Medieval scholars think? People are sinners () ! People should concentrate on getting into heaven Purpose of learning = understand God’s will
