The broadleaf cattail is a plant with many uses The broadleaf cattail is a plant with many uses. Such as; In earlier life (and the present) it was used in padding for diapers, thatching, and bedding. The pollen, roots, inner shoot and young shoots are edible. The plant can also be dried and made into flour.

Where and weather. The broadleaf cattail is native to all states except Hawaii. It can survive in almost any weather, but it grows in soil that is regularly wet. It can grow in very acidic soils to very neutral soils.

Fun Fact! Did you know that the cattail is very resistant to fire?

The cattail is very hardy, and it’s species have been very successful in surviving and reproducing throughout the life on earth. Cattail in winter 
