What is Foundations of Math 3? In Foundations of Math 3, you will solidify and build upon concepts and applications from previous math courses, preparing you for Math 3. You will be engaged in realistic problem solving, hands- on investigations, discovery learning and presentations.

Take out a piece of paper. Write down two questions that you have about me. Write down one question that you have about this course. As a group, choose one question from each category to share with the class! ? ? ? ? ?

Is this really even Algebra? Complete the “By-The-Shapes” activity as a group. When you are finished please sit quietly and wait for further instructions.

Think-Pair-Share What does it mean to be equal? Think about this on your own for a moment Pair up with a partner and discuss Share with the class round-robin

Equal means “the same”? So are these equal? Define again…what does equal mean?

Equal means “same number”? So are these equal? How should we define equal?

Equality means same value! Not looks the same Not has the same number Not simply has = Equality means same value!

Properties of Equality Fill out the top part of page 2 with your group. Did you forget the properties? Look them up! Why should we even learn the properties of equality? Come up with at least 3 reasons in your group; be prepared to share!

Let’s solve for x Complete pages 2-3 What was one part / section / topic that your table struggled to remember or understand?

HW for tonight! Get your syllabus signed Complete the worksheet pgs 4-5 Be ready to group grade your HW – don’t be the weakest link!
