Type the address of the Groenkloof library in the Address Bar of your browser http://www.ais.up.ac.za/edu/ and press Enter
Click on General Education under the heading E-Resources
Click on Academic Search Premier
Type in your password which is your surname and student/personnel number and click on Submit
Please note! Please confirm annually at the library’s main counter that your personal details are updated on the library management system If you experience any problems to log in, recheck your personal details at the main counter
Enter the words you want to find in the query box and click on Search Use and to combine terms and narrow the search Use or to broaden the search Use not to exclude a search term and narrow the search
? will find alternative spellings. Wom?n finds woman as well as women More search tools ? will find alternative spellings. Wom?n finds woman as well as women * will expand a search term. Adolescen* finds adolescence, adolescent and adolescents Near Operator (N) - N5 finds the words if they are within five words of one another regardless of the order in which they appear Within Operator (W) - W8 finds the words if they are within eight words of one another and in the order in which you entered them
Your search can also be restricted by using the drop-list to choose title, author, subject terms etc. For an unrestricted search choose Default fields
Results can also be limited to Full text documents, Scholarly journals, Publication date etc.
If you do not limit your results, the result list can be filtered to search a specific document type
You can also narrow your results by clicking on the Subject options indicated on the left of the screen
Click on a title to view the complete bibliographic details and abstract of an article
Click on HTM Full Text or PDF Full Text to view the full text of an article
You can Print, E-mail or Save a single result You can Print, E-mail or Save a single result. To print, e-mail or save multiple items, click on the Add to folder button

Articles can also be selected on the main screen by clicking on the Add button or Add 1-10
Click on the link Check Univ of Pretoria catalog to see whether UP subscribes to this journal (paper copy or electronically)

To view further records on the next page, click on the next page number Pages 1 2 3 4 5 Next
Once you have worked through the complete list, and added your choice of references to the folder, click on the Folder has items link. A list of your selected references will be displayed
The references and articles can be printed, e-mailed or saved by clicking on one of the available options
To print your references, make sure the Full text and the Field format options are included and click on Print

Click on the Back button to return to the search results
To e-mail your references and the full text of the articles, type in your e-mail address, subject and specify the Full text and the Field format options and click on Send
The Full text of articles can be saved to a hard drive, CD, or a memory stick. To save, remember to include the links and click on Save

Click on New Search at the top of the screen to start a new search
