Whereas data for energy expenditure, body temperature, and activity are shown during 24 hours, the light and dark phase, respiratory quotients are shown during 12-hour fasting and within the first 6 hours after a 5-g test meal. Data for diet-induced thermogenesis are expressed as a percentage of the energy content of a 5-g test meal and shown at 1 hour, 2 hours, and 3 hours after refeeding with the test meal after a 12-hour fasting period.
