Good Writing English I

Good Writing “We are a society strangling in unnecessary words, circular constructions, pompous frills and meaningless jargon.” --William Zinsser "On Writing Well"

Non-Sexist Language As a general rule people are not sexist these days, but English is a sexist language. Sexism – Words in writing that indicate one gender or another. Good writing does not use sexist words if it can be avoided.

Non-Sexist Language A man who lies constantly needs a good memory. A person who lies constantly needs a good memory. Men have always hoped to conquer disease. Doctors have always hoped to conquer disease. A handicapped child may be able to feed and dress himself. Handicapped children may be able to feed and dress themselves.
