Writing the Research Question First Educated Shot at Writing the RQ

Today’s Objective: Begin developing your research topic into a working research question.

Writing the Research Question Take the first ten minutes to try and write your research question.

From your research question are you... Exploring Explaining Creating Provide a rationale regarding your decision.

Focus What specific thing do you want to study? What other items should be specific in your research question? Be very specific in the labeling of all your research question items. Do not leave any confusion for your audience.

Scope How big is your study? Place parameters on your question. This could be: Time Period Demographics (Race, Age, Gender, etc.) Participants Geography

Feasibility Can your RQ actually be studied? Create a small game plan to conduct your research. Include: Who/What you would need How you collect data How much time it will take to complete your work

Value What will be added to the body of knowledge or the information that already exists? How is your research important? Changing the way someone thinks about your topic Brings new information to something unstudied Helps further an already held belief Adds beauty to the world

Write your revised research question on a large index card. We will use these next class for our activity.
