Lesson 1: Google Docs Tour Objectives: Learn how Google Docs online can be used Create a Google Docs file Search for, insert, and resize an image Understand Tools

Use Google Docs for… Resumes Newsletters Business letters Meeting notes Invitations Brochures School reports Much, much more Before revealing, ask students to give some other ideas for documents you could create with Google Docs.

Search for images 1. On the Insert Image window, click Search. 1. 2. Enter “Lincoln Memorial’ in the Search Box. 3. Click the Search button. 1. 3. 2.

Resize Images 1. Click on the image to select it. Notice the small blue boxes or handles around the image. 2. Click and hold a corner handle. 3. Drag the handle inward to make the image smaller (or outward to make it larger.)

Saving No action is needed to save updates. Google automatically saves your document.

Methods of Selecting Text Click at the start of a selection, hold shift, then click at the end of the selection Double-click on a word Triple-click on a paragraph

Spelling Command Spelling command displays a tool that suggests spelling corrections. Spelling mistakes are indicated by a red underline. A quick way to access Spelling Tools is to right-click on the red underlined word.

Word Count Command Word Count command displays basic statistics about your document.

Define Command Define command displays a dialog pane with the definition of the selected word as well as synonyms for the word. Synonyms are words that mean exactly or nearly the same.

Explore Command Explore command displays a dialog pane that allows you to research words and phrases in your document.
